Solar panel and photovoltaic cleaning

Dust, pollen, bird droppings and lichen along the panel edge cost yield – several per cent a year depending on pitch and location. We clean photovoltaic and solar thermal systems gently, without scratches and without aggressive products.

Gently cleaned, measurably more yield

Rain washes off far less than people think: a strip of dirt stays along the lower edge of the panel, and moss and lichen settle there. Those are exactly the cells that drag down the output of the whole string when partly shaded. That is why we always clean the full surface including frame and drainage edge.

We work with demineralised water – it dries without marks and needs no chemicals at all. Systems on flat roofs, carports and balconies we clean directly; on pitched roofs we work from the roof hatch where possible, or from the ground with a telescopic pole. Where fall protection or a lift platform is needed we say so beforehand and quote it transparently.

Frequently asked questions

Solar Panel Cleaning – FAQ

How often should a solar system be cleaned?

Usually every one to two years. More often with a shallow pitch or near farmland, trees or main roads.

Does cleaning really increase the yield?

On visibly dirty panels, yes – typically a few per cent. On a steep, freshly clean system it is barely worth it, and we will tell you so.

Does cleaning damage the panels?

No. We work at low pressure, with soft brushes and no abrasives. We avoid pressure washers on the panel and the seals on principle.
